Psalm 55:22
Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the
righteous to be moved.
As Christians, we have been taught from an early age to spend time in prayer and give
our troubles to Jesus. The hymn, Leave it There, tells us:
Leave it there, leave it there,
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
If you trust and never doubt, He will surely bring you out.
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
How freeing it is to bring those troubles to God! We happily kneel at the altar to pour
them out! But, how often do we stand up, reach behind us, and drag those same
problems back into our world when we arise from our prayer time? We worry over them,
lose sleep over them, and let them cause us stress. But most importantly, we let those
burdens rob us of peace and joy! Jesus said "The thief comes only to steal, kill and
destroy. I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." John 10:10 (NIV)
So the next time you are tempted to reclaim those burdens that you gave to Jesus,
remember the words of the hymn and leave it there!
Prayer: Dear Lord, I give you these burdens. Please help me to leave them with you.
You are more than capable of handling them for me! Amen
