GOD ALONE
My soul waits in silence for God only; From Him is my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken. How long will you assail a man, That you may murder him, all of you, Like a leaning wall, like a tottering fence? They have counseled only to thrust him down from his high position; They delight in falsehood; They bless with their mouth, But inwardly they curse. Selah. My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be shaken. On God my salvation and my glory rest; The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God. Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.
Psalms 62:1-8 NASB
Life can be filled with difficulties and uncertainties. David knew this very well. His enemies were all around him. I am sure his mind must have been whirling with "what if" scenarios and maybe even second guessing decisions he had made.
David wrote this Psalm to settle those questions. He knew the temptation and the folly of trusting in himself or anyone else. This Psalm expresses who he is placing his trust and confidence in. He is placing it in God alone.
Just as Satan sought to destroy David, he tries to do the same thing to you and me. He wants us to live in fear. He wants us to be discouraged and not trust in God, but we need to respond as David did in verse 8 and "trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us."
So many times we think we should handle our problems on our own. When we respond this way we are trusting in ourselves and not trusting in God.
When we seek God in prayer and choose to submissively bow to His sovereignty, God's promises become personal. It allows God's Word to speak to us and it silences our accuser, Satan.
Is there anything in your life that takes the place of God? We must remove anything from our life that we put our trust in and trust in God alone.
He is the One who delivers us! God is our Rock and strong fortress!
PRAYER:
Father, thank you for being our Rock and strong fortress. May we always trust in you
