Read: Deuteronomy 34: 1-12

Success without a Successor

The scene: Moses standing on Mt. Nebo, surveying the Promised Land. Yet, he is forbidden to
enter with his people for his disobedience. The agent through whom God had delivered the
Israelites left short of the fulfillment of the promise.

Most of us dream of the future success of our progeny. Sometimes we push so hard for them to
complete our dreams that we never allow them to explore their own dreams. We try to warp
them into the shape we want them. Their efforts to discover their own shape and dreams we
see as a rebellion to be crushed and redirected. No wonder we see their natural inclinations as
rebellion. We fail to see those goals as part and parcel of the way they were created and as part
of the plan that God has for their uniqueness.

It could be a lack of faith on our part. If the goal of our live is part of God’s overall plan, then God
will finish it. Our Moses is not God’s final word on the subject. God’s Joshua is.

Prayer: O God, our constant help and our vision, help us to let go of what we want and become
agents of helping others to find what You desire for them..

Thought for the day: God’s work has already been thought through from start of finish; our part
is only a part of what God has done, is doing, and will do.
