WAIT A LITTLE LONGER. PLEASE!
Read Mark 13:32-27
“Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
Revelation 22:20 (RSV)
When our daughters were pre-schoolers they would play together, and often make huge messes with their multiple dolls and toys. My wife Ruth would admonish them to “pick up your toys and put them away before Daddy comes home for lunch.” Often this would initially be ignored, and their mother would have to repeat her instructions to “pick up your mess” before Daddy gets here.
This second warning was usually also ignored. When I arrived at lunch time, Ruth would caution me that the girls have made a mess in their bedroom, and despite repeated requests to “pick up”, their room looked like a tornado had hit.
So, I would stomp down the hall and call our “I want to see your CLEAN room, girls!” Immediately their frightened voices would cry out - - -’WAIT A LITTLE LONGER. PLEASE DADDY!’
Every Advent I remember this experience with my girls and wonder how many times our Lord Jesus has come near, and has witnessed the mess in our lives. And how he wants to help us “clean it up”.
And all too often we have pleaded “WAIT A LITTLE LONGER. I’ll CLEAN UP MY LIFE. I DON’T NEED YOUR HELP....RIGHT NOW.”
Prayer: Lord, move our heart to love you so much that we will always be ready to welcome you, especially when our lives are full of messes. In Jesus Name. Amen
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The Lord is near. Are you ready for Him?
